ACATENANGO VOLCANO OVERNIGHT TOUR
The Acatenango Volcano is located near the city of Antigua Guatemala, in the municipality of Acatenango (Chimaltenango). The volcano has two peaks, Pico Mayor and Yepocapa (3,880 meters above sea level), which is also known as Tres Hermanas. The Acatenango Volcano is linked to Volcán de Fuego, and the union of both is known as La Horqueta.
The Acatenango Volcano is 3,976 meters high and is dormant. The volcanic cone does not have a crater on its summit, but rather a gently sloping depression with sandy soil.
The Acatenango Volcano does not report activity at present, but the small phreatic eruptions that released ashes and gases in the years 1924 to 1927 and in the year 1972, are among the main volcanic eruptions in Guatemala during the 20th century
This tour is ideal for adventurous souls who want to spend the night in the camp and witness the eruption of Fuego (the twin volcano of Acatenango) from a distance.
