"Uyuni Salt Flats" Tour

The Uyuni Salt Flats, is a salt desert so wide that it can be seen from space. It constitutes one of the main tourist destinations in Bolivia visited by thousands of tourists every year. The most visited island is located in the central zone, Incahuasi, where endemic species of the region like giant cactus, inhabit the 24 hectares of this island. You can also find at some times of the year species of flamingos. This place, refuge of the Incas, has its art. All the beauty of one of the most spectacular areas of the planet unfolds before our eyes. Besides being considered the largest lithium reserve in the world, it also provides local artisans with the ability to process large amounts of salt, both for human consumption and for the construction of homes and hotels. In 2019 it was awarded by the World Travel Awards as the "Best Natural Tourist Attraction in South America" and in recent years work has begun on the process of nominating the Salar de Uyuni as a World Heritage Site.

Itinerary

-Customers are picked up in 4x4 jeeps at the Uyuni bus terminal. - Visit to the Train Cemetery, an impressive place where the train tracks advance unaware of the passing of time until they get lost in the horizon. Vestiges of the development of a place that once lived pending the whistle that announced the arrival of these machines. The remains of old trains that, back in 1899, circulated with their wagons loaded with silver from the Huanchaca mines await us.
- Our journey continues to the Salt and Flame Museum, where you can appreciate different structures and animals made of salt.
- Time to rest for lunch. - We continue the tour to observe the Montones de Sal, which is the place where the inhabitants of the town work in the collection of salt which is then transported by trucks and processed for different uses. - We return to the 4x4, leaving behind the salt piles, to continue our journey through the extensive white plain. This time we will visit the so-called Eyes of Salar, holes through which the subway water comes to the surface. It looks like boiling water, but in reality, it is very cold. - From here we will continue to the Incahuasi Island. An island of steep orography where we can find a great amount of giant cactus whose porous wood and very little weight can be used to make doors, windows and furniture. - At the end of the afternoon we return to Uyuni.
