“Excursion to Desembarco del Granma National Park” Trekking Tour

Desembarco del Granma National Park, is located in the Province of Granma. It is a natural refuge for many species of plants and animals. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. It is an area that is practically virgin and has several lakes and saltwater lagoons. In this place, on December 2, 1956, Fidel and a group of expeditionaries disembarked on the Granma Yacht to continue the revolutionary struggle, which is why this place is named after them.

Numerous species of plants, birds, reptiles and amphibians have been identified in the Desembarco del Granma National Park. The coastal area has a great depth that allows a great development of underwater life and makes these sites privileged places for diving lovers.

We start in Bayamo at 07:00 hours, after 1 hour by car we arrive at Manzanillo city centre, a 20 minute break before heading to the Desembarco del Granma National Park. We will visit the exact spot where Fidel Castro and 81 revolutionaries landed, the Memorial of the Freedom Gate, the archeological trail of El Guafe, where you can explore through a red earth trail that goes through a forest to a cave system, the endemic flora and fauna of the place in a 2 hour walk. We will have lunch in a small fishing village in Cabo Cruz, with time to swim at the small but very pleasant beach. The town's lighthouse, Faro Cabo Cruz, was built in 1871. A restaurant next to the lighthouse offers fresh seafood. Later, we head to Media Luna, where Celia Sánchez's memorial house is located; a place that shows how many people gave up their wealth for the cause of the revolution. Later, after 40 minutes by car, we arrive at the monument to La Demajagua, 15 km from Manzanillo. This place was where Carlos Manuel de Céspedes freed his slaves and began the war of independence of 1868, on October 10, 1868. This event marked the only Cuban revolution to this day. One hour and 20 minutes after that stop, we will return to Bayamo.
