Jeep Safari "Raphael's Pond" (National Park ¨Mensura-Piloto¨)
It is located in the Sierra de Nipe, in the Nipe-Sagua-Baracoa Mountain Range. The uniqueness of the flora and vegetation in this area lies in the contrast produced by the ecotonal zones between one formation and another, especially due to the abrupt transitions that can be seen, such as between a bush and a wooded formation, or between types of vegetation that develop on different soils. The endemic flora of Nipe's Sierra District (Nipense) has more than 140 locally endemic species, including Pouteria micrantha, evaluated as critically endangered (CR); Tetralix nipensis, endangered (EN); as well as Manilkara mayarensis and Koehneola repens, vulnerable (VU). There are 341 fauna species listed for the area, with 129 endemic species.
Extensive region of more than 8 thousand hectares, it belongs to the province of Holguin and it is land strengthened by minerals, iron, nickel and cobalt. Their properties are adorned by a varied vegetation that is distributed according to the height. It has two seasons. The rains visit the region between May and October (summer) and almost disappear from November to April, in a relatively dry period (winter).
