“VIÑALES” Tour

Viñales, a small town in the province of Pinar del Río, is the ideal place to admire the beauty of the Cuban landscape. Land of tobacco and rum and in this is the largest cave system in Cuba. The Cueva del Indio which offers the visitor the possibility to travel 200 meters from the cave by boat, through the San Juan River. It also has the St. Thomas cave, considered the largest in the Antilles with 45 kilometers in length.

In relation to its flora, it is classified as having an atypical evolution, very varied in terms of species with characteristics of relics from the past; there are around 17 endemic botanical species in the Valley that are not found anywhere else in the world. Its maximum exponent is the Mycrocycas Calocoma , known as Palma Corcho, the only species declared National Monument. This is a 150 million year old living fossil, the oldest palm in the West Indies. This phanerogam species of living fossil is particularly abundant in the territory near the Valley.

The fauna is relevant because of its marked differentiation, and it is the union of the different ecosystems that favours its diversity. This site has a great variety of birds, reptiles, mammals and mollusks; among the invertebrates we can mention the presence of endemics, as is the case of the Papilionidae family with the Parides Gundlachianus species.
