Program Details

"Tiwanaku" Tour

Tiwanaku is located near the southern (Bolivian) shore of the sacred lake Titicaca and would become the center of one of the most important Andean cultures. The architecture, sculpture, roads and management of the Tiwanaku empire would have a significant influence on the later Inca civilization. Its monumental remains bear witness to the cultural and political importance of this civilization, which is different from any of the other pre-Hispanic empires in the Americas. The most imposing monument of Tiwanaku is the Akapana Pyramid, although its public-religious space is formed by other architectural structures such as: the Semi-subterranean Temple, the Kalasasaya Temple and the Pumapumku Pyramid, among others.
