Moray Salineras tour.

Itinerary

The tour begins with the collection of travelers in their respective hotels to visit the following tourist attractions:

Maras: Located to the west of Cusco at 3300 m.a.s.l. from there you can see the Urubamba and the snowy peaks of "La Verónica" (5682 m.a.s.l.) and the "Chikón" (5530 m.a.s.l.) Their important occupation began when the Cusco nobles of the Inkario were stripped of their palaces in Qosqo and had to leave to establish themselves in other small towns like Maras.

Moray: The archaeological site of Moray is located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, 5 kilometers from Maras and 38 kilometers northwest of the city of Cusco. Located at 3,500 meters above sea level, it presents a series of concentric circles, which increase in size as they gain altitude. Each of these comprises a terrace or walk with a different microclimate, the circles closer to the center will have higher temperatures and as they expand outward lower ones. The arrangement of these platforms leads scientists to believe that it was a kind of agricultural research center in Inca times. The platforms are divided into 3 sectors; the first four correspond to the first sector, they are the ones at the bottom, they are more humid and their temperatures are low due to the higher evaporation of water. The second sector includes the following four platforms that have temperatures that oscillate between 2°C or 3°C per year. The platforms 9,10,11,12 have temperatures that can vary according to the sun exposure. The temperature changes are even more differentiated considering the dry and rainy seasons. All these characteristics have led to determine that the Incas recreated several types of climates in the terraces of Moray and with this they managed to produce a great variety of vegetables among which are the grains as the quinoa, the kiwicha, the pumpkin, the pumpkin and varieties of potato; also they have managed to acclimatize and to transform wild species for the human consumption, supplying of food to the whole Tahuantinsuyo.

Salineras: or "salt mines": Located to the northwest of the town of Maras they are constituted by about 3000 small wells with an average area of about 5 m², during the dry season are filled or watered every 3 days with salt water from a natural spring located at the top of the wells. With evaporation, the salt contained in the water gradually solidifies. Finally we will be returning to the city of Cusco at approximately 1.30 pm.
