Jeep Safari "Nature Tour to La Gran Piedra-Baconao"
Baconao is located at an altitude of 1 meter above sea level. It is a place of significant beauty where you can enjoy the contrast between the water and the surrounding mountains. Its flora includes various types of mountain forests, as well as coastal forests, gallery forests, pine forests and dry forests. In the Baconao Reserve there are some 1,800 identified plant species.
La Gran Piedra, an enormous volcanic breccia rock, 51 meters long and 25 to 30 meters wide, with an estimated weight of 63,000 tons, is located on top of a mountain at 1,225 meters above sea level. Natural viewpoint from where the Sierra Maestra can be observed.
The legends of its origin include versions that attribute its formation to the impact of a meteorite that fell millions of years ago in the aforementioned eastern territory, although the most truthful is the one that considers its birth due to the explosion of an underwater volcano. It is currently considered a National Monument.
