“Matanzas” City Tour
The province of Matanzas is located in the western region of Cuba, and is the second largest of the provinces, representing 10.7% of the country's total area. The territory of Matanzas is characterized by the predominance of plains that occupy the three quarters of the provincial surface; being located most of the heights towards the northwest and center west of the province. For all the cultural splendor reached in the City of Matanzas, on February 17, 1860, the director of the Artistic and Literary Lyceum, Rafael del Villar proclaimed it as The Athens of Cuba, designation that has been maintained through the times and until the present time.
