This emblematic building, founded in 1879, an architectural jewel with a privileged location in the historical center of the city of Matanzas, was the pride of the "Athens of Cuba", since Matanzas was named during its successful era as the capital of Cuban culture. It was during this period of economic wealth that the local sugar and coffee farmers acquired enormous profits and collected extraordinary fortunes. The Louvre was characterized in its time by its luxury, good taste and exquisite services, becoming a national and international reference for those who visited the city. After a careful renovation, it reopened its doors in the last months of 1998, maintaining, in terms of its architecture, the most significant elements of the facility.
