Our agency can only offer car rental services as a MAIN DRIVER OR HOLDER of a car rental reservation to: INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS OR CUBAN RESIDENTS ABROAD, in that sense we are NOT responsible if the rental can not be made because the holder does not meet these conditions and will be considered NO show, applying 100% penalty. In case a client wishes a relative, friend, etc. resident in Cuba to drive the rental car, *we can only include him/her in the reservation as ADDITIONAL DRIVER with the corresponding extra charge.

As of December 1, 2023 the liability waiver (insurance) will have an increase of 5.00 USD per rental day for customers 25-75 years of age. For customers from 21 to 24 years old and from 76 to 80 years old there will be an increase from 7.00 to 15.00 USD per rental day depending on the category of the rented car.

CANCELLATIONS AND NO-SHOW POLICY:

  • Cancellations for a term between 60 to 30 days prior to the beginning of the reservation will be subject to a penalty corresponding to 25% of the total value of the rental days of the reservation.
  • Cancellations for a term between 30 to 15 days prior to the beginning of the reservation, a penalty corresponding to 50% of the total value of the rental days of the reservation will be applied.
  • Cancellations made 14 days or less in advance, a penalty corresponding to 100% of the total value of the confirmed reservation will be applied.
  • It will be considered No Show if the client does not show up to pick up the car within 4 hours after the requested time at all rental points except at the airport where the car will be kept for up to 24 hours.
  • No-Show: The client will pay a penalty of 100% of the total amount of the rental.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

  • The minimum and maximum ages established to rent a car without any extra liability waiver fee are 25 and 75 years old respectively.
  • For people from 21 to 24 years old and from 76 to 80 years old will pay an additional fee of the value of the liability relief.
  • Possess a driver's license issued at least 2 years in advance.
  • Minimum age established to rent a car is 21 years old.
  • Maximum age established to rent a car is 80 years old.
  • The minimum rental, for the modality of sale at risk, is 3 days for High Season and 5 days for Extreme High Season. The maximum rental period is 60 days.
  • The client pays by credit card at MLC, directly at the REX sales office, upon presentation of the voucher, according to the confirmed rental conditions, the additional payments not included in the corresponding service modality: security deposit, baby seat, additional driver and drop off if not included in the reservation, or others. To make any payment, the client, not included in the reservation, may present a credit or debit card. The cards accepted are: VISA, MASTERCARD and American Express even if they are issued by North American Banks. In case of payment by credit card, the holder of the Contract must be the same as the holder of the credit card. In the exceptional case that the cardholder is a third party, the third party must sign the Lease Contract together with the cardholder. Cash payments will not be accepted.
  • The car is delivered with a full tank of fuel and will be charged, as it is included in the reservation, at the beginning of the rental the total value of the tank at the established price: To guarantee a correct servicing of the car, the client must return the car with an empty tank. The client is responsible for the use of the correct type and quality of fuel for the vehicle (special gasoline only). If the car is returned with fuel REX will not refund any money for this concept.

  • For the opening of rental contracts in the terminals of the country's international airports, a supplement of 20.00 USD is charged, regardless of the type of contract.
  • For the opening of the first rental of any new vehicle of the fleet, a supplement of 10.00 USD is charged; this charge is made only once and not on a daily basis.
  • In case of accident, total or partial theft, the client must proceed to communicate it to the emergency telephone number stated in the rental contract and report it to the police, which will serve to know the guilt or not of the client.
  • The vehicle must be delivered at the time agreed in the contract or before 5 hours later. Failure to comply with it will proceed as established in the penalties.

MAIN DRIVER:

  • The client must present at the time of making the rental contract: passport, residence abroad and driver's license, otherwise the service will not be executed and will be considered a No Show.
  • Minimum age required to drive: 21 years old. Except for category I, (Sport) in which is 25 years old. With minimum 3 years of experience.

ADDITIONAL DRIVER:

  • There is the possibility of a maximum of 2 additional drivers, payable at the time they decide to be included in the contract, with driver's license and at least one year of experience. In this case an extra charge of 3.00 USD per driver per day applies. Additional drivers are authorized only to drive the vehicle, but may not pick up or deliver the car, receive cash refunds, or request extensions. These transactions with REX must be made by the Customer.
  • If the Customer leaves the vehicle in charge of the additional Driver for its return, he/she will be responsible for the payment of any damage detected at the end of the rental, as well as other charges agreed at the beginning of the signing of the Rental Agreement, without the right to claim. Additionally, REX will apply a penalty of 50.00 USD. Foreigner: 18 years of age and older. Cuban resident in Cuba or abroad: 21 years of age or older.
  • When it is detected that the rented vehicle is being driven by persons not authorized in the contract, the official authorities will notify this situation in the contract to the client with a penalty amounting to the loss of the amount of the days pending to be used and the guarantee deposit, as well as proceeding to withdraw the rented vehicle from the client.

At the time of the opening of the contract, the REX salesman must communicate to the clients all those aspects that he considers necessary to emphasize for the correct use of the vehicle fleet, as well as to avoid complaints from them due to lack of knowledge:

  • The customer must comply with the conditions and terms set forth in the Lease Agreement that he/she is given to sign at the Rental Point. This includes the use of the Roadside Assistance contacts in case of any emergency as defined in the Lease Agreement.
  • The vehicle may be driven only by the persons registered on the Rental Agreement.
  • The pick-up and drop-off times of the vehicles must correspond to the working hours of the requested rental point. The customer has the right to a maximum delay of 3 hours to deliver the car after 24 hours of rental. If the customer delays more than 3 hours, he/she will have to pay REX Car Rental an additional rental day according to the public rates.

INSURANCE COVERAGE:

  • REX provides the user with a liability waiver coverage, as long as the user complies with the clauses included in the vehicle lease contract.
  • All REX cars are insured against collision, rollover, catastrophes and damages to third parties. REX does not offer insurance to its customers. In order to protect its customers from financial liability for damage to the vehicle, REX offers damage coverage. This coverage is mandatory for the client in order to rent the car. This coverage will be acquired through the payment of daily rates that vary depending on the category of the vehicle and the age of the client and are defined in the prices of the service. The coverage against damages has the following characteristics:

  • Total economic exemption for damages to the integrity of the vehicle (Super CDP): By accepting the Super CDP, the client is totally exempt from economic responsibility for damages caused to the vehicle. This coverage is offered without deductible. In case of an accident in which the client does not incur in any cause of exclusion of the Insurance Policy, the client will not pay REX any additional payment.

  • The rate of the coverage against damages will be determined by age range.
  • The coverage is not valid for a driver who is not registered in the Contract from the beginning of the rental.

  • In case of accident or total or partial theft, the customer must:

    (a) Immediately notify the competent authority nearest to the place of the event or contact, at no additional charge, the services of the Security and Protection Company (SEPSA). b) Notify REX. c) Take the necessary safety measures with the vehicle to avoid further damage. d) Fill out the damage report provided by a REX official. e) In all the cases described in the preceding clause, the user must immediately notify the competent authorities of the incident. f) He/she shall present to the REX Sales Office or Agency, before or at the time of settlement of the vehicle lease contract, the receipt issued by the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) stating that a report has been filed, in case of loss or theft, or a report from the PNR of the place of the event or from REX inspectors in case of an accident.

  • By this documentation REX will determine if the user is exempt from payment for the damages caused, according to the liability waiver coverage that has been paid.
  • When by means of the documents described above, it is determined that the user has not complied with the obligations that make him/her exempt from payment for the damages caused, he/she is obliged to pay MLC the amount corresponding to the total damages according to REX's current price list.
  • The coverage covers the Client during the term of the vehicle lease contract and in case of an accident up to twelve (12) hours after the expiration of the contract.
  • The coverage offered by REX does not apply in the event of the occurrence of any of the following aspects: (a) Theft or loss of tires and rims (including spare), windshield wiper blades and arms, intermittent side jewels, lifting equipment and its accessories, antennas and audio system. These charges will be paid directly by the client. b) Partial theft, accident or fire due to negligence of the REX user when it is proven by the competent authorities that he/she has been driving while intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs or similar, or when the vehicle is detected to be used in illegal activities. c) Total theft if the client keeps the key of the vehicle or does not report it to the police. d) Coverage does not cover cars with blown engine due to drowning caused by the client's negligence in driving the vehicle, the charges corresponding to these damages shall be paid by the client and no changes of car shall be made.

  • In case of any of the above mentioned aspects, the CUSTOMER will be held responsible for all damages caused to the vehicle and to third parties, being liable to pay the total amount of the damages caused.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON THE ROAD:

  • REX offers the technical assistance service on the road throughout the national territory free of charge, except, if the breakdowns causing the assistance are the result of negligent action or forgetfulness of the user.
  • The notification to receive technical assistance on the road will be made by calling the following telephone numbers: 7 265 5555 (Command Post). This service is available 24 hours a day.
  • The technical assistance service will be provided as soon as possible after receiving the user's notification or directly from REX. In the event that the roadside assistance service does not start after three hours from the notice, REX is obliged to analyze the cause of the delay and proceed to make compensation in hours, days or categories of vehicles higher, as determined by REX for each specific case.
  • REX performs the change of car or makes repairs for breakdowns that the vehicles rented by the user may have during the trip, specifically: Change of tires, battery, electrical problems, crashes and minor breakages.
  • In no case shall the technical assistance service provided by REX be responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles rented by the user, which shall be performed at any REX service network facility.

CAR DROP OFF CONDITIONS:

  • The Customer may return the car at any REX rental office in the country without any drop off charge. Drop off/pick up service in locations where there is no REX office is subject to confirmation by REX. These charges are paid directly by customers. REX reserves the right to confirm deliveries and/or pick-ups at these locations. If the car is returned to a location other than the specified REX rental offices, a drop off fee will be charged. OTHER PENALTY CHARGES FOR CUSTOMER NON-COMPLIANCE:

  • Delivering dirty vehicle: 50.00 USD. Means vehicle extremely dirty in its exterior or interior, with stains or bad odor, as a result of improper use.
  • Transporting animals: 50.00 USD. Transporting pets or other animals in the vehicle.
  • If the key is left inside the vehicle for any reason: 50.00 - 100.00 USD. The client must pay a roadside assistance fee of 50.00 USD within Havana and 100.00 USD in the rest of the provinces of the country.
  • Loss of vehicle keys: 200.00 USD. The amount of the penalty is equivalent to the loss, breakage or theft of the key.
  • Loss or change of the vehicle's license plate: 120.00 USD. Loss or change of the vehicle's license plate.
  • Placing stickers or accessories on the vehicle without authorization of the rental company: 100.00 USD. The amount of the penalty is equivalent to the change of color of the windows and/or windshield of the car (wallpaper).
  • Loss or damage of the contract: 50.00 USD. The penalty is applied if the client breaks, deteriorates or loses the copy of the contract that is given to him/her at the beginning of the rental.
  • Loss of the carpets: 50.00 USD.
  • Delivery of the vehicle after the agreed date: 100.00 USD. In the event that the customer decides to return the car after the agreed date and has not gone to one of the REX Sales Offices to update the extension of the contract, a fee per extension of 100.00 USD will be charged for each day spent, in addition to the daily rental and insurance value of the vehicle.
  • Abandonment of the vehicle or returned by a person other than the contract holder: If the vehicle is abandoned by the customer or is driven or returned by a person not registered since the beginning of the rental, REX will penalize the amount of the outstanding days to be used and the security deposit.
  • Delivery of the car by the additional driver and not by the contract holder: 50.00 USD. The amount of the penalty is equivalent to the delivery of the car by the additional driver and not by the contract holder.
  • Loss or replacement of vehicle parts: The customer will be responsible for the loss or replacement of any part, part or accessories of the vehicle and will pay according to the REX parts dossier.
  • Deprivation of the use of the vehicle: If the client is deprived of the use of the rented vehicle due to the commission of a crime or violation of an administrative provision by a legally authorized agency, he/she will not be entitled to claim any type of refund of the rental, REX will penalize with the amount of the pending days to be used and the guarantee deposit.
  • In the case that the client decides to transport the vehicle by sea to or from the territories of Cayo Largo del Sur and Isla de La Juventud, according to the Owner Branch, taking Havana as a reference: A penalty of 200.00 USD + the value of the Drop-off will be applied.
